Kulen Elephant Forest Camp is a compassionate conservation sanctuary nestled in the Bos Thom Community Forest at the foothills of Phnom Kulen, about a one-hour drive northeast of Siem Reap. Founded in 2018, this ethically-led reserve spans over 400–1,100 acres of lush jungle and serves as a retirement refuge for former temple elephants, allowing them to roam freely, socialize, and enjoy natural behaviors—no rides, no performances . Visitors join small groups (max. 12 people), learning from knowledgeable mahouts and guides while walking alongside the elephants, feeding them, and observing them in their forest habitat. Amenities include an eco-conscious lodge built from reclaimed materials, shaded trails, natural bathing areas to help keep elephants cool, and a base camp where guests enjoy Khmer lunches. Accredited by the Asian Captive Elephant Standards at the silver level, the sanctuary also champions breeding programs, community forestry protection, and scientific research—ensuring that your visit supports both elephant welfare and the conservation of Cambodian biodiversity.
